Michael Laurence Yinger

Is an American artist whose work delves into the interpretation of the unconscious, exploring themes of time, space, and entropy through a diverse range of materials and mediums. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, IN, in 2000. During his undergraduate studies, Michael participated in the Rhode Island School of Design’s summer abroad program at the Pont-Aven School of Art in France in 1999, enriching his artistic perspective. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Fine Arts in Combined Media from Hunter College in New York City in 2004.

Michael’s artistic philosophy emphasizes the transformation of environmental elements into abstract reflections of his surroundings, aiming to reveal the often overlooked aesthetics of everyday life. He places importance on the creative process over the final product, viewing his work as a metaphor for entropy and the subversion of energy.

Throughout his career, Michael has been involved in numerous exhibitions. Notably, his first verified exhibition was “with teeth” at Priska C. Juschka Fine Art in New York City in 2007. He also held a solo exhibition titled “One More Drink And I Won’t Miss Her” at envoy enterprises in New York City in 2008. His most recent exhibition was “Heads Or Tails” at Mary Ryan Gallery in New York City in 2010.

In addition to his exhibitions and renowned presence, Michael has been recognized with residencies, including serving as the Grand Canyon National Park Artist-in-Residence in 2011. His works are also part of major collections, such as The Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, which acquired his work in 2008.

After several years immersed in the dynamic art scene of New York City, Michael began to feel the wear and tear of the big city lifestyle. Seeking rejuvenation and a renewed sense of purpose, he decided to follow in the footsteps of artists like Georgia O’Keeffe, relocating to the Southwest in search of balance and new inspiration. This period of recalibration allowed him to recuperate and reignite his artistic passion, providing a fresh perspective and a revitalized enthusiasm for his work.

Michael’s commitment to exploring the unconscious and the ephemeral nature of existence through art continues to resonate with audiences, offering profound insights into the human experience. Now, more than ever, he is poised to bring beauty, inspiration, and a renewed passion to his creations, ready to engage with the art world with a vigor stronger than ever before.

In crafting my art, I draw upon my surroundings as a wellspring of inspiration. Environmental elements serve as initial informants, guiding the transformation of abstract concepts into tangible forms. This journey of exploration marks the inception of my creative interpretation, culminating in artworks that mirror the essence of space and time. The process of distilling ideas into aesthetically valuable physical objects is central to my practice. I believe that art brings me closer to self realization, a pursuit common to many through avenues like religion, education, or solitude. My work embodies a synthesis of these quests, manifesting as material expressions of introspection.

My intellectual pursuits in art revolve around interpreting the unconscious. Through my creative process, I endeavor to exert the mental capacities of the present moment and the interplay of time and space in material form. This approach aligns my work with natural processes, highlighting the phenomena of time and space. By employing a diverse array of materials and mediums, I embrace constant change, allowing my creations to serve as metaphors for entropy and the transformation of energy. I strive to reveal the often overlooked aesthetics of our environment, emphasizing the beauty inherent in the creative process over the final product
